The Chain Chairs demonstrate design- enhanced value of salvaged material. The steel tubing was cut from discarded frame components and spliced together into a continuous band. The chains were salvaged from a demolished loading dock, welded, and shaped to the frame. The untreated materials will patina as a reflection of their climate, use, and neglect. This upcycling process allows salvage materials to regain consumer value and diverts them from landfills and other energy-intensive recycling processes.
