This structure was built as a hydro-electric generator hut for an off-grid property in the 1950’s. At some point waterwheel was replaced with a gas generator that posed an environmental threat of fuel contamination in the creek. I took the opportunity to renovate this historic structure into a 120 SF sleeping nook with an over water experience. I kept the hole in the floor where the water wheel used to sit, clad it in glass, and framed an additional window to look upstream from the bed. The tiny insulated space stays cozy from only body heat and has infanite white noise for a tranquil sleep.
